Dark Descent Records/Parasitic Records (2012)
Yet another great release from doom/death genre, "Netherwards" has some black metal influence as well, but mostly their "doomed death metal" self-chosen tag is spot on. The sound of this Seattle-based formation is best described as My Dying Bride around "The Light at The End of the World". The death parts are also very reminiscent of the British masters, with the growls sometimes recalling the great Aaron Thorpe.
But Anhedonist is hardly a …Bride clone, similarities in sound be damned. Theirs is a dirtier, more earthy, dare I say underground sound with tremendous depth and just as powerful riffs and melodies, the band maintaining a great deal of own identity despite influence practically on their sleeves. Sounds contradictory but it's not. Lastly, take can actually write more depressing stuff than MDB and that's something in my book! Very recommended.
