Echozone (2012)
A five piece cyber metal band originally from Greece but relocated to the United Kingdom, Hannibal release their second album six years after their “This Is U” debut. This is a 13 song album that I didn’t really understand- there are computerized strains and lots of repetitive rhythms/ beats/ melodies that didn’t capture my interest. Dance-like keyboard strains during “Let It Rain” recall New Order against the distant guitar crunch.
Great vocals from Alex Balakakis (a.k.a. Hannibal) in the Mike Patton vein for “Angelryche” or “My God”, but otherwise “Cyberia” is too watered down and Americanized for my preferred tastes. It’s like a bad industrial modern metal montage come to life.
