Abazagorath - "The Spirit Of Hate For Mankind"

No Visible Scars (2012)

US black metal. Whatever. I have come to the conclusion that to me it's black metal, no matter origin. You know, the one who came up with this Trve Norwegian Black Metal tag should've been shot. More whatever. I mean, Abazagorath's way of black metal is not that alien to black metal from Europe, which means that the origin means little or even nothing. The thing that do count is if it is good.

This EP has its moments, no doubt. Nice acoustic pieces here and there, some great melodies, as the lead towards the end of "Immortals". But most of the time this is generic and fast black metal with no spice. They do not have the last touch, the one that makes it worthwhile. It's like they play black metal but they don't have a vision behind, a force that haunts these musicians to jump out of the crowd and into the mountains of hell.

When I don't feel "The Spirit Of Hate For Mankind" I think they have failed. Then again, perhaps it's me that just don't connect with Abazagorath's way of black metal? I mean, they do have the ingredients and musicianship to fulfil their darkest dreams, it seems. But for now the music on this EP is too mediocre.
