Aborted - "Global Flatline"

Century Media Records (2012)

“Global Flatline” delivers pretty much everything you’d expect from a top flight, experienced group of campaigners like Aborted. Technically, the guys know how to get around their instruments with disappearing up their own backsides. The production is crisp and modern, catching all of the power and brutality but also percussive nuances and details of the well integrated samples. This means you can really get into the more extreme aspects of the music without becoming overwhelmed. The song-writing successfully provides a dynamic listening experience laden with cool hooks, riffs and fills.

If you are already a fan of this band, you’ll probably agree that “Global Flatline” is close to if not as good as anything they’ve ever done. There is no great change from what came before, but the whole thing has been put together so well that the quality shines through. For those unfamiliar with the band, “Global Flatline” is a release that delivers on so many levels that it is hard not to like. I’d easily recommend this over the last Cannibal Corpse.

Aborted manage to sound fresh and modern even though they stay pretty close to the classic DM formula. Innovation can be found herein, but it is the icing on the cake rather than the fundamentals that have changed. Those who prefer more dirt, gore and death might feel that atmosphere is a bit thin too and these limitations are reflected in the score below.
