Prophecy Productions (2012)

This is a one man band of an Italian multitalented multi instrumentalist Gianluca Divirgillio. It's not really a metal album but rather rock somewhere between U2 and Coldplay and Gianluca Divirgillio even sounds like Bono, in places. It is a very beautiful, romantic, emotional, poetic and relaxing music, though (behold the title) it has a great deal of negative feelings: anger, dissapointment, depression, but never despair. It's perfect for cold melancholic nights when you're alone and life seems rotten, and it accomplishes its purpose just as strongly, if not stronger than, a doom laden slow death metal record by application of the same reverse psychology on the depressed, the suffering, the hopeless. And no wonder, for the project name is, like Scar Symmetry, representative of the cosmic duality of positive v. negative, the persistent polarity around which we attempt to built our lives.

As I am quite fond of this style and U2 is one of my favorite non-metal artists, at least from "Boy" to "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" until there was no line for them on the horizon, I like this album. It's nothing groundbreaking but in this world of ugliness, greed and hate of which we are made aware courtesy of extreme metal, sometimes we need a gentle reminder why this life, after all, is still worth living.
