Relapse Records (2011)

Okay, I admit it: I don't get the whole "drone metal" thing. This just sounds like some spacey odd computer effects  that has as much to do with metal as my mother, except for the black metal whispers/rasps. It IS great music when you  can't sleep and want to, but this two disc album sounds like one very long song on disc 1 and another shorter one but still long on disc 2.

For the entire duration of disc 1, I shit you not, the main motiff does not undergo one variation but for change in pitch. That it is not metal, is of course, not a problem, but the problem IS that I don't really know what that is. I can't get myself to listen to it more than once. It is horrifyingly boring. The only use I can think of for it is  as a movie soundtrack, some odd, mysterious tale about parapsychological phenomenon. 

Now I love Agalloch's use of drone music  on "Against the Grain" but for a good reason: it was a little seasoning on an otherwise  very creative superb compositional work. But it was not 8 tracks of drone, just a part of ONE. I'm afraid I would have to start smoking weed to enjoy 80 (!) fucking minutes of this.

Guys, words to the wise: if you are going to make a monotonous album, cut it to some 30 minutes for ONE disc for fucks sake! I give this 2 points because it isn't worthless, just very samey throughout and requires the use of recreational drugs to understand and enjoy, not unlike the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Since I have a very addictive personality combined with severe ADHD, a psychological Molotov cocktail, I am not willing to embrace any of Phil Anselmo's favorite indulgences.

Pretty much a waste of time if you have the aforementioned four letter condition. Moving on.
