Pulverised Records (2007)
Ok, so this album was released two and a half years ago, but damn it, an album is an album and a review is going to be written, come hell or high water!
So about the group; Sathanas might be considered almost "old school"as the band was formed in Pennsylvania in '88, even though their first album came out in '96 with two demos predating it. “Crowned Infernal” is Sathanas' sixth full-length album (during the time it took me to write this review they managed to release another full-length, a "best of" and a live album… I'm shit, I know) and it is extremely and without doubt very, very average! A good kind of average though.
“Crowned Infernal” is very decent "blackened deathened blackdeath" metal. There are some interesting tracks here like the headbangable opening title track, but most of the tracks will just pass you by and swarm around in the background like annoying little insects. The album does sound a little uninspired. It might be worth mentioning that this is my first encounter with Sathanas, so I can not compare this album to any of Sathanas' other albums, but “Crowned Infernal” has had very little playtime the two and a half years it has been gathering dust in my CD-shelf for a reason
The final verdict is that this album is not great, but it is not completely shit either. If you are in the unlucky situation of owning every deathened deathblackned death metal album in the world except for this one, chances are you are going to buy it, and you should. As for the rest of you, go buy something else...
