Nuclear Blast (2009)
I was going to be blatantly, brutally honest, but then I remembered that I am not an asshole. But the truth is that this struck me as a rather mediocre affair. So in all righteousness I could give this a 3.Certainly, 3 for songwriting would be fair. However, to band’s credit, thei rmusicianship is flawless. Accordingly, they gain one more point from me. Or better yet, I give 4 but I wish I could give 3.75.
They play a mixture of gothic, dame-led progressive metal with slight elements of Doom/Death, but less of it, than, say, the last Paradise Lost effort. Besides, similarities to that excellent outfit abound, to say nothing of the album cover (“DraconianTimes”, anyone?)
Overall, I am sorry to say, a rather forgettable affair. The sound is now heavy, now Evanescence-like sterile. They inject some fairly interesting melody here and there, but again, the band seriously lacks in songwriting ability…or maybe experience? Either way: pass. Fix the songwriting to match your musicianship and we’ll talk…
And please, for Goddess’ sake, try a different title for your next album. This one is inane, clichéd and completely nonsensical.
P.S. I guess I turned out to be an asshole after all…
