Season of Mist (2009)
Esoteric, eccentric, mystical, theatrical, dark... The list goes on and on, but there are still no right words to describe the music of Cantata Sangui. It's so goddamn rare to face an album like this, when it all goes way beyond all the descriptions, and Cantata Sangui is truly a band of many faces. At first sight, the band looks just like your average gothic dark metal band with female vocals, but soon you'll notice that the band is so much more than "just a metal band".
"On Rituals and Correspondence in Constructed Realities" is an interesting mixture of ritual-like atmosphere and catchy music, and the album feels like a well balanced unity between the spirit and the flesh. The melodies of the songs are playing a very important role in the album, and most of the leading melodies of the songs are totally unforgettable. Even though the album (and especially the lyrics) seems very complex, it is built in clear song structures and catchy choruses. Actually all of the songs are quite catchy, reminding a bit of a style of Madder Mortem, which is only a good thing.
All in all, Cantata Sangui delivers a convincing sonic trip to the beautiful and irresistible world of atmospheric music, and should also tickle the ears of those dabbling with the esoteric affairs. If you like your music spiked up with magick, dark ambience and ritual-like hymns, Cantata Sangui is definitely your cup of tea (or absinthe).
